The Bay City Elementary Music Programs provide classroom and performance skills that are designed to help students grow musically, intellectually and socially. Students are introduced to concepts such as pitch, rhythm, timbre, form, beat, dynamics and style. Concepts are taught through singing, playing instruments, moving, listening, and evaluating a wide variety of music, in the context of its history and culture.
Students also learn that songs are a form of communication, that history is present in the songs of a nation, and that mathematical concepts guide the relationships between note values and parts. While reinforcing and building these connections with other subjects, music remains an important manifestation of our cultural heritage and a subject in which all students can find success.
Music study provides our students with opportunities to express themselves, work together towards a common goal, develop positive self-esteem and self-discipline, and foster the thinking skills and creativity so valued in the workplace.
