The Elementary Library Skills Curriculum is divided into five main categories:
1) Orientation - Your child will learn to locate, check out, and care for materials
2) Organization - Your child will learn the difference between fiction and nonfiction materials, how the library is organized by Dewey Decimal System and alphabetical order, and the use of E catalog data base on Alexandria to select materials.
3) Selection and Utilization - Your child will learn to select materials appropriate to their ability both for curricular and recreational needs, identify the parts of a book, and demonstrate awareness of a variety of literature
4) Comprehension and Application - Your child will learn to formulate a question or problem for which information is needed, select the appropriate reference tool for gathering information and use the information to produce or communicate ideas
5) Appreciation - Your child will participate in storytelling activities, demonstrate awareness of Caldecott and Newbery Award books, be aware of community libraries, and share literature with others in a variety of formats
